Chime ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our iOS application.
Quick Summary
Your privacy matters. Chime keeps your tasks on your device, uses AI only to help you create tasks, and doesn't track or sell your information.
Information We Do NOT Collect
Chime is designed with privacy in mind. We do NOT:
- Collect any personal information
- Store your tasks on our servers
- Track your usage or behavior
- Share your data with third parties
- Use analytics or tracking services
- Sell your information to anyone
Data Storage
Your data is stored securely:
- Tasks: All tasks, reminders, and notes are stored using Apple's SwiftData framework with iCloud sync. If you have iCloud enabled, your tasks sync across your Apple devices. If iCloud is disabled or unavailable, data is stored locally on your device only. We do not have access to your data in either case.
- Voice Recordings: Voice input is processed on-device using Apple's Speech Recognition. We do not record or store your voice
- Widgets: Widget data is shared between the app and widgets using Apple's App Groups
AI Task Processing
When you use the "Spill the Beans" feature or Quick Add with AI:
- Your text is sent to OpenAI's servers to process and extract task information
- We use OpenAI's API (GPT-4o-mini model) to understand natural language and create tasks
- OpenAI processes this data according to their privacy policy: https://openai.com/privacy
- OpenAI does not use API data to train their models (as of their Enterprise privacy policy)
- We do not store or log your conversations on our servers
- The text you send is only used to create tasks and is not retained by us
Permissions We Request
Microphone Access
- Purpose: To enable voice input in the "Spill the Beans" feature
- Usage: Voice is transcribed on-device using Apple's Speech Recognition
- Data Handling: No voice recordings are stored or transmitted
Speech Recognition
- Purpose: To convert your voice to text for task creation
- Usage: Processing happens on your device using Apple's Speech framework
- Data Handling: Transcribed text is processed locally or sent to OpenAI API for task extraction
Notifications
- Purpose: To deliver reminders for your scheduled tasks
- Usage: Notifications are scheduled locally on your device
- Data Handling: Notification content stays on your device
Third-Party Services
OpenAI API
We use OpenAI's API to process natural language and extract task information. When you use AI features:
- Text you provide is sent to OpenAI's servers
- OpenAI processes this data according to their privacy policy
- OpenAI's API does not use your data for model training
- We do not combine this data with any personal identifiers

Apple Services
Chime uses standard Apple frameworks and services:
- SwiftData: For local data storage on your device
- Speech Recognition: For on-device voice transcription
- UserNotifications: For scheduling reminders
- WidgetKit: For home screen widgets

Data Security
- All data is stored locally on your device using Apple's encrypted storage
- We do not have access to your data
- Your data is protected by your device's security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID)
- If you delete the app, all data is permanently removed from your device
iCloud Sync
Chime uses Apple's iCloud to sync your tasks across your devices if you have iCloud enabled. This sync is:
- Private: Only you can access your data
- Encrypted: Protected by Apple's security
- Optional: Works locally if iCloud is disabled
- Managed by Apple: We don't control or access your iCloud data

Children's Privacy
Chime does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is not directed at children.
Your Rights
Since we don't collect or store your personal data:
- You own all your task data
- Your data stays on your device
- Deleting the app permanently removes all data
- No data is retained on our servers
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:
- Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top
- Providing notice in the app (for significant changes)
